Dr. Michael Clerveus is a board-certified general surgeon and the Founder and CEO of Elite Surgical Specialties, LLC, in Coral Springs, Florida. His practice encompasses general surgery, robotic surgery, and hospital-based trauma, emergency surgery, and surgical critical care. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Spanish Association of Surgeons.
Dr. Clerveus earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba, in 2007, graduating summa cum laude with the highest grade point average in the school’s history. He went on to complete a Master in Public Health at the National School of Public Health, Carlos III Health Institute, in Madrid, Spain, in 2009. His early clinical experience included caring for patients in Haiti, adding a community and international perspective to his medical training.
He completed a general surgery residency at La Mancha Centro Hospital in Spain from 2009 to 2014, followed by a general surgery residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York from 2016 to 2021. He also completed training in pancreatic surgery in Germany and in clinical research methodology at Harvard University. This international training informs his approach to evaluating surgical conditions, discussing treatment options, and tailoring care to each patient.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Clerveus serves as a core faculty member of the general surgery residency programs at Broward Health GME and HCA Florida Northwest GME. He has also served as a Trauma Surgeon at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown since 2023. His South Florida hospital affiliations include HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital, HCA Florida Northwest Hospital, Broward Health North, Broward Health Coral Springs, and West Boca Medical Center.
Dr. Clerveus has published multiple peer-reviewed articles, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses examining laparoscopic appendectomy and pancreatic reconstruction. In clinical practice, he emphasizes sound surgical judgment, clear communication, and personal attention from the initial consultation through recovery.
